Leonard L. Pisaniello

In his own words

From a letter Lenny wrote in October 2005, after he was asked for a short bio.

I have been drawing and painting for as long as I can remember. I don't know how one would characterize my work, Outsider I guess, Self-taught for sure, Brut perhaps or Naïve, don't know, don't care. What I do is what I do. I often give my works elaborate titles or incorporate words into the work itself; those are all the words they need.

I was born in Paterson NJ in the year 1944. In 47 or 48 my family moved to Fair Lawn NJ. I was raised there and attended the public school system until the age of 16, at which time I was asked to leave Fair Lawn High School. My teachers believed me an unteachable daydreamer, doodler and ruffian (I think they had me pretty well pegged).

In 1962 I joined the army, did a tour in Southeast Asia and was honorably discharged in 1965. Shortly after leaving the service I was married and remain married to that same lady to this day. My wife Carol has been with me through some harrowing times.

Aside from a few small shows in Jersey and New York several years ago there really isn't much else to tell. Through all the years there has always been my art. If I am sane at all it is because of my work and my lady, Carol Gay.

From far Outside,
Lenny
